For example, you could suffer a fist, ball, or flare in and on your eye. You could also damage your eye as a result of a hard fall or a small object. A small object is often more dangerous than a large object, as it fits snugly into your eye socket. A blow to the eye means something or someone has hit your eye hard. This can cause mild to serious symptoms.<\/p>\n"},{"title":"Which symptoms can I expect with a blow to my eye?","content":"<p>If you\u2019ve had a blow to the eye you may suffer from:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A bruised eye.<\/li>\n<li>A teary eye.<\/li>\n<li>A red eye.<\/li>\n<li>Impaired vision. For example, your vision is blurred or you see stars.<\/li>\n<li>Double vision.<\/li>\n<li>Flashes.<\/li>\n<li>A dilated or constricted pupil. Compare your eye to your undamaged eye.<\/li>\n<li>A distorted pupil.<\/li>\n<li>An eye which looks different. For example, your eye may bulge out or be skewed.<\/li>\n<li>A torn eyelid.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n"},{"title":"What can I do about a blow to the eye myself?","content":"<p>If you\u2019ve suffered a blow to the eye, we recommend that you:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Check your eye. Have someone else check it for you if you can\u2019t. Contact your GP if your eye appears abnormal.<\/li>\n<li>Cool your eye. Do this by placing a cold and damp wash cloth on your eye.<\/li>\n<li>Take paracetamol in case of severe pain. Always read the package leaflet before taking a paracetamol. That\u2019s because the permitted dosage will differ per age group.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n"},{"title":"When should I go and see the doctor for a blow to the eye?","content":"<p>You don\u2019t need to contact a doctor or your GP if there\u2019s nothing seriously wrong with your eye. However, you must get in touch if:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>You have severe pain.<\/li>\n<li>You are nauseous from the pain.<\/li>\n<li>Your eye is swollen.<\/li>\n<li>You can no longer tolerate light.<\/li>\n<li>Your vision has changed. For example, you\u2019re suffering from blurred or double vision.<\/li>\n<li>You\u2019re starting to see spots and\/or flashes.<\/li>\n<li>Your pupil is larger or smaller than your other pupil.<\/li>\n<li>Your pupil is deformed.<\/li>\n<li>You have blood under your iris.<\/li>\n<li>You have a ruptured eyelid.<\/li>\n<li>Your retina detaches.<\/li>\n<li>You start developing symptoms again after your GP has diagnosed an eye contusion.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Your GP will refer you to an ophthalmologist or eye specialist if necessary.<\/p>\n"}],"original_post_id":"2_25","disable_sync":false},"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v26.6 -
